Huge News Update

So apparently, the email was a fake or could have been spoofed as by using freewebhost, I am able to spoof emails. As far as Boombang News goes, it was probably a fake spoofed email from something trying to mess with everyone. Anyhow, I do have some news from researching around and other things. I checked out the whois records and found out that Boombang was in fact renewed by the previous owners from years back, meaning Tim and Luz are still in possession of the domain. However, everyone thinks that their 10 year anniversary hasn't come up, but from looking, Boombang.tv was registered nearly 11 years ago (See above image).

This might be some saddening news for a few of you, but there is still hope, that is if you believe in fairy tales. Apparently, coming from the whois records, it claims that the DNSSEC is unsigned. I took an excerpt from the ICANN website on what a DNSSEC is:

"Recently vulnerabilities in the DNS were discovered that allow an attacker to hijack this process of looking some one up or looking a site up on the Internet using their name. The purpose of the attack is to take control of the session to, for example, send the user to the hijacker's own deceptive web site for account and password collection.

These vulnerabilities have increased interest in introducing a technology called DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) to secure this part of the Internet's infrastructure."

This being said, Boombang could have been, yes, hijacked. Yeah, I'm aware that's not hope. However, when I went deeper, it became clear that you can't completely mask the DNS and redirect the MX records so easily. Luz has obviously not been replying from her Hotmail address, but with enough information on her, easily someone could have stolen the email from her and rendered contacting her useless. I've done so from myself just by looking up some simple information on a relative to show them that Hotmail is not all secure. I've recently come to terms that Boombang might not open back up, but I've been hopeful. I'm not sure anyone would want to do this to Boombang, though.

But I did find something even bigger than everything else. After checking more records, it was said to be that the URL has a 301 Moved Permanently redirection code. This means that the URL is redirected, permanently. There's no way that someone could have hijacked the site, unless, it was permanently redirected by the hijacker. After all, the website was down approximately 6 months ago, from some records. It also came to my attention that the only services up are the web servers. Nothing else is up. No FTP, no game, the splash page for the game is just a webpage. The game has been completely removed from the website.

So yes, unfortunately, our childhood game has probably been hijacked because they were unable to sign something so easy, the DNSSEC records. It's kind of a shame that it took us this long to find out. You're also probably wondering why the Facebook page hasn't been updated. Maybe the hijacker stole that too? Once you hijack a website it's easy to find out information-a lot of information actually.

No, I'm not saying I'm correct, however, this is a pretty big finding. Even after all of this, i'm still not sure if I believe everything I covered. This might not be accurate. I doubt it's 100% accurate, but I'm sure some of it is. Tim and Luz gave us nothing. They didn't update us like they promised, the website did have some downtime for a week a bit after. It could have been because someone bought BoomBang from them. It is registered from Wild West Domains, which is a large network for reselling websites. Unfortunately, I have no hope anymore, but I will continue to update. I just created this website to keep the community closely knitted together.

Even if you check any of the elements of the Play page, you will see nothing. It's not a game. It's a webpage mimicking the maintenance page. Referring to what I said about Boombang being down 6 months ago, I went further into the elements and Javascript code of Boombang's website, this is what turned out http://pastebin.com/GxqSyhZj. The Boombang.tv website was updated October 13, 2014. The usernames of the web servers even turned out to Alberto. I'm not sure if anyone named Alberto works for the Boombang team, but I doubt it considering it would probably be in Tim or Luz's names. The maintenance page is just a few images and some Javascript slapped onto it.

I'm sorry this news is unfortunate. Maybe it's about time we move onto new games.
